ENTRYPHONE & INTERCOM
Entryphone and intercom systems are used in commercial and residential applications to allow visitors to contact tenants in a building to gain access to their suite. The term entryphone (or enterphone) is commonly used when referring to a system that calls tenants on their phones/devices using public communication channels such as phone networks or the internet. The term intercom is more commonly used when the system makes audio/video calls from a “door station” outside the building to one or more “answering stations” inside using direct wiring or a local data network for communication. Modern systems often blur these distinctions by allowing tenants to answer audio/video calls using a mix of technology including land lines, cell phones, computers, dedicated answering stations and other devices.
When a call is received the tenant can grant entry to the visitor by pressing a button or number on their device. This can be used to activate doors, gates, elevators, or any other device - whether it’s down the hall, or across the globe.
Versatech recommends visitor entry systems from 2N, a subsidiary of video surveillance company Axis Communications. 2N uses VOIP/SIP digital communications technology to offer an affordable, highly flexible line of visitor entryphone / intercom products. 2N products integrate with door controls, elevators, and video surveillance systems to provide a complete entry management solution. 2N entry panels can place calls to standard land line phones, cellular phones, VOIP digital phone systems, PCs, and dedicated touchscreen answering stations.
With the recent release of their “IP Style” entryphone panel, 2N has become the world leader in durable, elegant touchscreen visitor entry solutions.
