COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT EXAMPLES
1515 Douglas Street / 750 Pandora Avenue
Jawl Properties is well known in Victoria as a premier developer of commercial office space. Their most recent developments at 1515 Douglas (The Rotunda) and 750 Pandora are no exception. With a combined 300,000 sf of office and retail space sharing an underground parkade and ground level public amenities it serves as an outstanding focal point for the redevelopment of Douglas Street and the future of the downtown core as a whole.
Versatech was selected to install the access control and video surveillance systems for this prestigious, state of the art development which includes the most extensive security systems of any building in the City of Victoria. The Rotunda serves as a local headquarters for financial services and technology companies, while the 13 storey tower houses the international headquarters for the BC Investment Corporation (BCI). With $200 billion in managed assets BCI must meet stringent security standards and participate in frequent security audits to meet the regulatory requirements of international authorities. We are proud to have been chosen as the security systems provider for this landmark development.
1025 Johnson Street
1025 Johnson is an example of how strong partnerships can meet the needs of a city through thoughtful planning, investment and trust. This 12-storey building incorporates affordable rental homes above Class-A commercial office space and Victoria’s first post-disaster public safety facility (including the new City of Victoria Fire Department headquarters). The 130 new rental suites will be operated by Pacifica Housing, a local leader in not-for-profit rental housing that Versatech has worked with for a decade. Pacifica is a Registered Canadian Charity and one of Vancouver Island’s largest providers of affordable homes and supportive services.
Versatech installed commercial and residential access control throughout the building, including multiple elevators and parking gates. Video monitoring is provided to enhance occupant safety, and a visitor entry system was installed for the apartment tower. With its eclectic mix of uses the project has its challenges, which include working with the disparate security management infrastructure that each tenant requires. Versatech is always ready to adapt to our client’s needs and was honoured to provide a piece of the technology puzzle for this unique building, serving the vital needs of our growing community.
